Program settings

Tape drive
Before the DATdump can be started, we have to inform the program which tape drive it should use for backup.

Tape compression
If Z-TapeBackup found a hardware compression feature on your drive, this option is activated and can be used as desired. Note that Z-TapeBackup works with the net capacity (the files can also be compressed with Z-DBackup).

Tape Auto-Format
Unformatted tapes are automatically formatted/prepared before backup.

Tape eject
If the tape-eject feature of your drive is not automatically recognized by Z-TapeBackup, you can use this option to tell Z-TapeBackup that your drive supports mechanical tape eject.

Eject tape after backup
With this option the tape is automatically ejected from the drive after backup.

Enable FAST CRC
FAST-CRC is a checksum which is calculated from the first 5 MByte block of every file. It enables checking files for errors that might have occurred during transmission and writing. Z-TapeBackup can save this checksum on the tape for later verification.

Block size
The selected block size has, among others, an influence on the processing speed. Values between 32 KB and 256 KB have proven to be efficient in practice. If very large files are to be copied to tape, even larger values can be selected, as long as the tape drive supports them.

Status Light

Indicates an activated feature of the tape drive.

Indicates a deactivated feature of the tape drive.

Indicates a feature not supported by your tape drive.

If a feature has a gray status light but your tape drive should support it, please check the installed drivers for the tape drive.

Error correction (ECC)
indicates if the device supports hardware error correction.

 Tape Capacity
indicates if the tape drive can report the total tape capacity.

 Compression
indicates if hardware compression is activated or deactivated.

 Tape Remaining
indicates if the tape drive can report the remaining free space on the tape.

 Tape eject
indicates if the drive supports a mechanical ejection of the tape cartridge.

 Autoloader
indicates if Z-TapeBackup has recognized an autoloader.

 Tape position
indicates if the drive can position the tape. This feature is detected while the tape is being prepared by Z-TapeBackup.

Quickly erase tape
indicates if the drive allows quick erasure of tapes.

 Erase
indicates if the drive allows the complete erasure of tapes.
